Teaching Cooperation to Your Students and Why It’s Important

As educators, we have an incredible opportunity to shape the minds and personalities of young students. We must teach them about cooperative and uncooperative behaviour to promote their growth. By teaching them appropriate cooperative behaviour, we can help them develop essential skills for successful collaboration, empathy, and building positive relationships.  At the same time, it’s necessary to highlight the harmful results of uncooperative behaviour. This can create an understanding of the harm it can cause to themselves and those around them, leading to a classroom teeming with respect and cooperation.

Social Stories Encourage Thoughtful Classroom Discussions

This resource engages your learners with scenario-based questions and situations to help them identify appropriate collaborative behaviours. These scenarios are perfect for thoughtful classroom discussions and even your morning meeting sessions. This interactive activity presents students with a scenario and then prompts them to identify whether that scenario exhibits collaboration or not. If correct, students advance to the following scenario, and if not, they are redirected to try again after you discuss the scenario more fully.
