Build understanding of duration of time with this engaging task card activity that helps students estimate, measure and compare how long everyday tasks take.
Duration of Time Task Cards for Engaging Maths Lessons
Understanding duration helps students develop real-world time management skills while building confidence with units of time. To strengthen this understanding, students need opportunities to make estimates, measure actual time and reflect on their results.
The Guess and Test the Duration Task Cards resource encourages students to estimate how long a task will take, complete it using a timer and then compare their estimate with the actual duration. The resource includes 24 hands-on task cards covering reading, writing, drawing, maths and movement activities, plus a recording sheet for tracking results.
This resource helps students:
- Develop a stronger understanding of duration.
- Practise estimating and measuring time.
- Build critical thinking and reflection skills.
- Connect maths learning to everyday experiences.
- Stay engaged through active, hands-on activities.
