Exploring Materials In The Classroom Worksheet Pack

Introduce your Foundation students to the world of materials with this handy Exploring Materials in the Classroom worksheet pack. These printable activities help young learners observe, identify, and talk about the objects around them while discovering what they are made of.

With these Materials In The Classroom Worksheet Pack, your students will begin to recognise that everyday items can be made from plastic, glass, paper, metal, wood, or fabric, and that some objects are made from more than one material.

Worksheets for Identifying Materials in Everyday Objects

Across the four worksheets, students practise early science skills by looking closely at familiar classroom items and deciding what materials they are made from. Each worksheet invites students to:

  • Look at or draw common objects found in the classroom
  • Sort or label objects based on whether they are made of plastic, glass, paper, metal, wood, or fabric
  • Build vocabulary around materials through pictures and simple prompts

The worksheets include:

  • Classroom Materials Match-Up – Students match common objects with the materials they’re made from.
  • What’s It Made Of? Materials Worksheet – Students look at common objects and note the different materials they’re made from in a table form.
  • Materials In The Classroom Worksheet – Students examine objects and write the material each object is made from.
  • Drawing Classroom Materials Worksheets – Students look around the classroom and draw objects made of wood, metal, plastic, paper, fabric and glass.
