Explore and identify examples of reversible and irreversible changes in matter with our ‘Odd One Out’ Reversible & Irreversible Change Task Cards.
Spark Deeper Thinking With Reversible And Irreversible Changes Task Cards
Understanding how matter changes is an important part of science learning. These reversible and irreversible changes task cards help students build their understanding of physical and chemical changes by encouraging careful observation, comparison, classification, and scientific reasoning. Through engaging challenge prompts, students examine everyday examples such as melting, freezing, dissolving, burning, rusting, cooking, stretching, and mixing to determine which change does not belong and explain their thinking.
Designed to promote discussion and evidence-based explanations, these reversible and irreversible changes task cards give students repeated opportunities to distinguish between changes that can be reversed and those that cannot.
Can Your Students Spot the Difference?
This set of odd-one-out task cards challenges students to identify the example that does not fit within each group and to classify it as a reversible or irreversible change.
Included in this download:
- 24 task cards featuring reversible and irreversible changes
- Level 1 recording sheet – only requires students to identify the odd change and tell whether it is reversible or irreversible.
- Level 2 recording sheet: requires students to identify the odd change, determine whether it is reversible or irreversible, and explain their reasoning.
- Answer Key
