Let’s Flip Through Double Digits!

A teacher has created this double digit flipbook as a way of engaging students in several different place value activities involving double-digit numbers. Some pages along the way also include some definitions of two-digit numbers, standard form, and expanded form as well.

Here are some of the activities included in this flipbook:

  • Information sheet about double digit numbers.
  • Identifying double-digit numbers in bubbles from a fish.
  • Information about standard form and having students identify double digit numbers in standard form.
  • Information about expanded form and having students identify the expanded form of double-digit numbers.
  • Identifying numbers that are in standard form.
  • Identifying numbers that are in expanded form.
  • A page for students to show their standard and expanded form of some chosen two-digit numbers.

✂️ Teacher Tips for This Double Digit Activity

Cut-and-paste activities can get hectic – we get it! Some thoughtful lesson prep will help to make this learning experience run smoothly for you and your students!

For older students:

Give each student a set of the writing pages (run them off on the copier as sets so you don’t have to sort them all post-printing!) Have students cut out each flipbook page along the dotted line.

Once all six pages are cut apart, have students stack them from largest to smallest, lining up the top. Staple together across the top to assemble the flipbook!

For young students:

In order for your younger students to focus on the questions (and not the cutting and assembly!), consider printing the pages individually for the number of students and then using a paper slicer to cut them in bulk.

Line them up on the floor in your classroom and call students forward to collect each sheet along the line until they have their full set. You could be waiting at the end of the ‘production line’ with your stapler at the ready to combine the pages and save them from being misplaced!
