Significant First Nations Australians - Inquiry Task

PDF | 3 pages|Grades: 5 - 6 | Starter Sheet

An inquiry research task to use in the classroom during NAIDOC Week.

This inquiry-based research task enables students to explore and celebrate the life of a significant First Nations Australian.

A cross-curricular inquiry task with an integrated English component

Students imagine that they are presenting a speech at the National NAIDOC Awards. To complete the task, they must:

  • choose an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who has made a significant contribution to their field
  • research the life and achievements of the person they have chosen
  • plan, write and rehearse their speech
  • present their speech to the class.

A great addition to your collection of First Nations resources

This teaching resource addresses the cross-curricular priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture. It is also perfect for NAIDOC Week.
