Let’s Be Social – Stories for the Classroom

Children often struggle with personal space due to their limited understanding o boundaries and social norms. This can lead to conflicts and difficulties in social interactions. However, this printable social story can be valuable in helping children understand the importance of personal space and respect for others. Social stories are simple narratives that use clear and concise language to explain specific social situations or concepts. By presenting relatable scenarios and offering guidance on appropriate behaviour, social stories can help children comprehend the significance of personal space and provide them with strategies for respecting others’ boundaries.

In this mini-book, students will be exposed to the following scenarios and tips:

  • I like to talk to my friends at school.
  • Sometimes I get too close to them when I talk.
  • My friends might not like it when I get too close.
  • They might like a little bit of space between us.
  • A little bit of space is the length of my arm.
  • My friends are happy when I do not get too close to them.

The last page of the mini-book also poses a question with three picture choices for students to choose from as their answer.

This social narrative story can be used in a variety of different ways with your students. It could be used as a:
