A Santa Writing Activity with a Twist!

Bring the festive spirit into your classroom with this engaging Santa writing activity! Designed especially for primary students, this printable worksheet pack encourages imaginative storytelling through the overarching theme of ‘Santa on Holidays’. Students will love imagining what Santa might do when he swaps his sleigh for surfboards and snowy fields for sandy beaches!

This printable Santa writing activity pack includes the following prompts:

  • Write a funny story about Santa trying out surfing for the first time. Does he master surfing or find himself in trouble? Draw pictures to match the story.
  • Santa Claus takes a break from the North Pole and heads to a tropical beach for Christmas. Write about his adventures in the sun and surf.
  • Write a short story about Santa’s fantastic holiday at the beach. Consider who would go, what he would do and what problems he might encounter.
  • Santa decides to organise a Christmas luau on the beach. Describe the festivities, including the decorations, food and entertainment.

Generate Some Santa Summer Fun in Your Classroom

Looking for some ideas to generate some Santa summer fun in your classroom to keep your students engaged until the Christmas holidays begin? Once students have completed their Christmas story writing, there are plenty of fun and meaningful ways to extend the activity and celebrate their creativity:

  • Host a Christmas storytelling day – Invite students to read their stories aloud to classmates or younger year levels. Encourage expression and performance to build confidence and oral storytelling skills.
  • Pair with art activities – Provide students with a variety of art supplies. Have them create an artwork to display alongside their writing, such as beach-inspired landscapes, summer feasts or a surfing Santa!
  •  Swap for a sequel – Have students swap their stories with a partner. The partner must read the story, then write a funny sequel for it. This helps students develop their narrative skills as they plan characters, settings and events.
