Teach your students about teamwork and sportsmanship with this soccer-themed comic, perfect for use during National Simultaneous Storytime 2026.
Teach Teamwork and Sportsmanship During National Simultaneous Storytime 2026
This year’s book for National Simultaneous Storytime, Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, tells the story of rookie soccer captain (Luna) who must work collaboratively with her teammates to overcome a strong and tricky opponent. It touches on themes of determination, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship… skills that we, as teachers, want all of our students to develop!
To support your teaching of these important themes, Teach Starter has created this relatable comic featuring a boy called Felix and his soccer team. Felix struggles when he is not awarded ‘Player of the Day’ and must explore what it means to handle disappointment and celebrate other’s successes. The resource includes an accompanying set of literal, inferential and evaluative comprehension questions which can be completed as a whole class, in small groups or individually. The resource also includes ten additional open-ended activities that students can complete to further explore the themes of teamwork and sportsmanship.
This resource downloads as a full-colour or black-and white PDF. The worksheets can also be downloaded separately as an editable Google Slides file.

This makes the resource ideal for SEL connections, circle time discussions or reflective writing in the lead‑up to National Simultaneous Storytime.
- Support differentiated learning with flexible entry points – The comic, questions and open‑ended tasks allow students of varied reading levels and learning styles to engage meaningfully with the themes. - Extend the NSS experience beyond one day – Using this comic and the associated activities in conjunction with Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller enables teachers to build a mini‑unit that stretches across the week that focuses on the key themes of teamwork and sportsmanship.
