Line Art Project Video – Funky Animal Art

Teach Starter Publishing
5 mins | Years: F - 2

Explore line in art with your students using this funky animal art project perfect for younger primary school students.

What Is Line in Art?

Line is one of the seven fundamental elements of art. It is a mark made by a tool, such as a pencil or brush, on a surface. Lines can vary in thickness, length, direction and curvature. They can be straight, curved, wavy, diagonal or zigzagged. Lines play a fundamental role in visual art, serving as the building blocks for composition and design.

In this 7-minute line art project video written and produced by our teacher team, Emma introduces the concept of line in a child-friendly, age-appropriate way. She explains how lines can be connected to other lines to create shapes and patterns in an artwork, and how different types of lines can be used to express the feelings of the artist.

After demonstrating how to draw different types of lines, Emma guides students through the entire process of creating their own funky animal art!

A Step-by-Step Guide to Funky Animal Art

You will need the following materials to complete this funky animal art project with your students:

  • One of Teach Starter’s funky animal templates (Emma uses our funky cat template in her demonstration)
  • A sheet of coloured paper
  • A pencil
  • A black marker
  • Scissors
  • A glue stick
  • Coloured pencils or markers

Students can follow along with Emma as she uses different styles of line to create her funky cat. Accessories can also be added to make your students’ animals look extra funky!

Once completed, ask your students to:

  • Give their funky animal a name.
  • Describe the different types of lines they used to create their artwork.

This video can be used year after year with your paid Teach Starter subscription. Just project the video on your interactive screen and allow your students to get funky!
