Correct punctuation is crucial for clear and effective communication. Without it, the intended message can get lost in translation!
This set of 6 punctuation posters has been designed by Teach Starter’s experienced teacher team to remind your students of the most common punctuation marks and their purpose. They provide a great reference point for your students to consult at any time during the school day. The poster pack contains posters for the following punctuation marks:
- Full Stop
- Comma
- Question Mark
- Exclamation Mark
- Apostrophe
- Quotation Marks
Each poster features a definition of each punctuation mark and an example sentence containing the focus punctuation mark.
This resource is available as a full-colour PDF. If you have limited colour printing available at your school, we recommend printing in grayscale on coloured paper. You may even wish to enlarge the posters so that they really pop when placed on your classroom bulletin board!
Use These Punctuation Posters in Your Writing Lessons
While these punctuation posters make a great classroom display, they can be used in many other ways in your lessons, too! Here are a few ideas from our teacher team:
- Lesson Aids – Use the posters during lessons to explain the rules and nuances of each punctuation mark. Incorporate activities where students can practise using the focus punctuation mark correctly in sentences.
- Writing Rotation Activities – Incorporate the posters into writing station activities where students can work on punctuation-focused exercises. This can include correcting punctuation in sample texts or creating their own punctuated sentences.
- Punctuation Games – Create fun and educational games using the posters. For example, you might choose four of the posters and place one in each corner of the classroom. Say a sentence, then have students move to the corner of the room with the punctuation mark that correctly completes the sentence.
