Elections Unit Plan

by Aissha Woodcock

I would love a unit plan for years 5-7 that focuses on the New Zealand election system.
Breaking down the process of voting and teaching the key components of the NZ election system as it will be prevalent in our society the latter half of this year. (powerpoints, youtube clips, posters, word banks, activity sheets, lesson plans would all be incredible!)

Thanks!

Maths Desk Chart

by Adriana Lopez

Hello, Would it be possible to create a Maths Desk chart strip (Same size as the TeachStarter_DeskPlateAlphabetandNumberLineYellowSpots_149528 (1).pdf)?

I would really like it to have the following included:
-3D shapes
-Australian Money
-Mental Strategies and 1 example for each (Jump, Split and compensation)

Split Strategy – Add the hundreds, tens and ones separately Eg. 23 + 16 = 20 + 10 = 30
= 3 + 6 = 9
= 30 + 9 = 39

Jump Strategy – Start with the 1st number and add the hundreds, tens and ones from the 2nd number. Eg, 35 + 24 = 35 + 20 = 55
= 55 + 4 = 59

Compensation Strategy – Round the 2nd number to the closest friendly number (10, 20, 30, 40 etc)
E.g, 25 + 39 = take 1 off 25 and add 1 to 39
= 24 + 40 (Use any other strategy)
= 64

Alternatively, just the mental strategies on their own would be great!

Thanks

Adriana

Bump It Up Wall- Literacy Continuum

by Jessica Munro

Id love it if you could make a bump it up wall for literacy. In particular writing. It could match in with your themed classroom packs! Students and teacher can then track where they are on the continuum and what they need to do to move to the next level. It could include writing goals as well that align with each cluster. Thankyou

Daily English Drills

by Mary Vescio

For all years K-6 linking with the new Daily Maths Mentals generator which is fantastic. Thank you so much. Is there a way you can do something similar for English daily drills incorporating spelling including phonogram knowledge, grammar and punctuation, writing skills including editing, reading skills such as identifying a small passage as fiction, non fiction, text type etc. Just set out clearly like the maths but targeting specific essential skills and knowledge the students need to know. It would be a fantastic resource to have and accompany your new maths one.

Vocabulary Word of the Day

by Sandra

VOCABULARY WORD OF THE DAY POWER POINTS
Words in a sentence; Words with definition;
Words with Part of Speech
To be used in Writing Warm-ups to specific subject areas – for example if teaching Narratives – you could have words associated with Character Traits, Story Settings, Plots etc… Persuasive writing etc.. or if you are teaching History – words associated with the First Fleet etc… then these could be used to build writing skills throughout the term. The Power Point for example could look like: theme picture, maybe six theme words, definitions of these words, then sentences with these words in – then create compound and complex sentences using the theme words etc.. would increase students’ writing skills
