Subject Verb Agreement Sentences for 3rd Grade

Did you notice something “off” about the above sentences? This is because the subject and verb in these do not agree!
This set of subject-verb agreement sentences has been created by the Teach Starter to help your students identify correct and incorrect usage of subjects and verbs. The resource contains 24 sentence cards. Each card contains a sentence that has correct or incorrect verb usage. Once students have made a decision about whether the sentence is correct or not, they must place it under the correct sort heading.

Use Subject Verb Agreement Sentences Examples in Multiple Ways
This set of subject-verb agreement sentences can be used in a variety of ways to engage and support your students. Here are some ideas from our teacher team:
- Whole-Class Movement Game – Assign one side of the classroom as “Correct” and the other as “Incorrect”. Read one of the subject-verb agreement sentences, then have students move to a side of the room to show if the sentence is correct or not.
- Collaborative Group Activity – Place the sorting activity in a literacy station. Let students work in pairs or small groups to sort the sentence cards. Encourage discussion as students justify their decisions to each other.
- Exit Ticket – Provide each student with a card to be used an an exit ticket at the end of a lesson on subject-verb agreement. This quick informal check-in allows teachers to see who needs more practice with subject–verb agreement.
