Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Relief Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarise yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Reading Comprehension
Distribute a copy of the Comprehension – Tropical Cyclones to the students. Read the text as a class. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the comprehension questions. Once the students have finished, discuss the answers as a class.
Literacy – Writing Task
As a class, discuss some of the facts about cyclones mentioned in the comprehension text. Ask the students to write an imaginary interview with a person who has just been caught up in a cyclone. Once they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their interviews with the class.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
As a class, play the I Have, Who Has? Game- Fraction, Decimal and Percentage Equivalence.
Numeracy – Data Representation and Interpretation
As a class, brainstorm a list of appropriate survey questions that the students could ask their peers. Provide each student with a set of Survey Data Collection Worksheets. Students create their own question(s), then survey the other students in their class. The students then represent their collected data using a graph. Encourage the students to share their findings with the class.
Literacy – Independent or Shared Reading
Allow the students to independently read an appropriate book of their choice. Alternatively, choose a book to read and share with the students.
Design and Technologies – Plan and Create
Provide each student with a Blank Game Board – Space Crusade template. Students use the blank template to design and make their own board game. When finished, students can play each other’s board games in small groups.
