A Fractions Escape Room for Adding Like Fractions

In the ancient city of Numeropolis, a legendary artifact known as the Fractional Amulet has been hidden for centuries. This powerful amulet is said to grant the wearer the ability to master fractions effortlessly. 

Your team of intrepid adventurers has been given the clues to find the lost artefact, but you’ll need to solve a series of fraction puzzles to uncover its location. You have only one hour before the artefact’s location is lost forever!

Welcome to “The Lost Artefact,” an escape-room-style game based on adding fractions with like denominators. In order to find the clues required to uncover the lost amulet’s secret location, the students will work through four adding like fractions worksheets, each based on a particular strategy. The strategies covered in this fractions escape room include:

• Number lines
• Pictorial models
• Standard algorithm

Watch your students’ excitement levels rise as they answer the fractions questions, put the clues together and solve the mystery of the lost amulet!

Easily Implement This Fractions Escape Room

The resource download (quick-print PDF or digital/editable Google Slides file) contains everything you need to easily implement this adding like fractions escape room in your classroom. The resource contains:

• Escape Room Scenario –This page sets the scene for the students, explaining the scenario and the purpose of the task in detail.
• List of Possible Locations – This table names the five possible locations of the lost amulet: The Temple of Fractions, The Ancient Library of Numeropolis, The Sacred Garden of Equivalence, The Catacombs of Calculation and The Hall of Mirrors. 
• Student Challenges – Students will unlock clues by completing four adding like fractions worksheets. Each clue will allow them to eliminate a location.
• Answers – These very secret pages are for the teacher’s eyes only!

Students could work on this escape room independently, or you could add an element of friendly competition by having the students work together in teams with the aim of being the first group of explorers to locate the lost amulet!
