3D Shapes Task Cards for Building Spatial Reasoning Skills
Understanding three-dimensional objects is an important part of geometry in Year 3. As students explore the attributes of 3D shapes, they begin to recognise how shapes are constructed and how their dimensions affect the space they occupy.
These 3D shapes task cards provide engaging opportunities for students to build and compare rectangular prisms using cubic blocks. Students complete a variety of challenges that involve constructing prisms, counting cubes, comparing models and investigating how changing a prism’s dimensions affects its size. The activity progresses from simple building tasks to open-ended challenges that encourage deeper mathematical thinking.
