Segment CVC Words with Sweet Treats!

Y-U-M spells delicious decoding!

Use this resource as an English group activity or whole-class exercise to practise segmenting and blending the phonemes in CVC words.

To build sundaes with CVC words, students will choose a word mat and identify the CVC word. Then, they must find the phonemes needed to build the word and cover the matching scoop in the sundae bowl. Students can then blend the phonemes to read the word.

Scaffolding and Extension Tips

  • Challenge fast finishers to put the words from the word mats in alphabetical order.
  • Support students who need help understanding the concepts by providing a visual reference while working through the CVC words.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students
