Facts and Details Activities That Build Stronger Readers

The ability to identify facts and details is a foundational reading comprehension skill that supports students’ understanding of what they read. Whether they are reading a narrative, an informational text, a persuasive article or even a social media post, students need to recognise key information and supporting details to fully comprehend the text.

This resource has been designed by our team to provide your students with practice in identifying facts and details in simple texts. It includes:

  • Five reading passages with accompanying questions
  • An extension task based on the passage
  • Question worksheets for each text
  • Answers for teachers

By engaging with this resource, your students will practise finding, recording and recalling the information in a text that matters most.

Recalling Facts and Details: A Cross-Curricular Skill

Recalling facts and details is an important skill that supports comprehension and critical thinking across multiple subject areas. When students can identify and remember important information, they are better able to understand texts, answer questions and engage with new learning.

Developing this skill helps students to:

  • Identify key information within a text.
  • Support responses using textual evidence.
  • Retell information with greater accuracy.
  • Summarise texts effectively.
  • Build note-taking and research skills.

These skills form the foundation for higher-order comprehension strategies, helping students become more independent and successful learners in all learning areas.
