Counting Phonemes Cut-and-Paste Worksheets 

These ice cream phoneme cut-and-paste sorting worksheets are a fun and engaging resource for teachers to use with their early years’ students to practise segmenting and sorting words based on their phonemes. With a delicious ice cream theme, students will enjoy the activity while developing their phonemic awareness skills and their fine motor skills!

Each worksheet requires students to sort a set of words into two or three groups, depending on their number of phonemes. Students must look at images and segment the words to determine which ice cream sundae or scoop they must go on.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

This template makes for a bonus cutting skills activity, depending on your students’ ages and abilities. 

With adult supervision, cutting skills help students work multiple muscle groups and their brains, plus:

• strengthen finger and hand muscles
• build dexterity and fine motor skills
• improve hand-eye coordination
• develop focus and attention.

And all of these skills are necessary to use a pencil and a fork; button a shirt and tie shoes; write, type and swipe.

Scissor skills are brain and muscle skills!
