Fact Family Games to Build Confidence
Understanding the relationship between multiplication and division is an important part of developing number fluency. Exploring fact families helps students see how multiplication and division facts are connected, building both confidence and recall skills. This multiplication game has been designed to help students practise multiplication and division fact families using colourful icosahedrons. The resource includes three separate versions targeting 2, 5 and 10 facts, 3, 6 and 9 facts and 4, 7 and 12 facts. The activities included in this multiplication game resource are:
- Practising related multiplication and division facts.
- Exploring inverse operations through fact families.
- Building multiplication fact recall and fluency.
- Using a hands-on maths manipulative to reinforce number relationships.
By working with connected equations, students develop a stronger understanding of how multiplication and division work together.
Fact Family Games for Flexible Classroom Use
This fact family resource can be used in a variety of engaging ways throughout your maths block, including:
- Fact Family Escape Challenge – Hide clues around the room and have students solve fact family equations to unlock the next challenge.
- Maths Tournament – Students earn points by identifying all multiplication and division facts within a fact family.
- Student-Led Teaching – Have students use the icosahedrons to explain fact families to a partner, reinforcing their understanding through discussion.
Because the activity is hands-on and easy to adapt, it works well in maths rotations, intervention groups and fast-finisher tasks.
