Start the New Year With a Goal Setting Mountain Worksheet

Are you ready to help your students climb toward success this year? Take your class on a goal-setting adventure with our Goal-Setting Mountain Activity Sheet! This printable goal planning template is a fun and meaningful way to encourage students to dream big, set achievable goals, and visualise the steps they’ll take to reach the top of their own personal achievement mountain.

Use this Goal Setting Mountain template when you want students to identify the steps they need to take to achieve a goal during the new school year. This helps students be accountable for their own learning goals.

Using This Goal Setting Mountain Template

Here’s how the Goal Setting Mountain Template works:

  • The peak of the mountain represents the student’s main target. This is the big goal want to reach — the summit of their journey!
  • The mountain’s slopes are for the smaller tasks or actions they must complete to reach their goal. These might include practising a skill, studying regularly, or showing persistence.
  • Each step helps students recognise that every small effort contributes to a bigger accomplishment, even if others can’t see the hard work happening behind the scenes.

We also recommend modelling the process by:

  • Collaborating with students to set three whole-class goals. These can either be cumulative goals, or goals that focus on three separate areas of their lives, for example, a learning, a social and a behavioural goal.
  • Write a shortened version of each goal in the top section, and elaborate upon these goals in the bottom section.
  • Model filling in responses until students feel confident enough to complete the activity independently.

Download and Print Your New Goal Planning Template

This goal planning template is versatile because it can serve as a visual reminder while students are working. To use it as a reference tool, fold the template in half, paste it in the rear cover of each student’s notebook or folder, and then unfold the top half of the page so that it sticks out from the edge of the book while the students are working!
