Adapting for Survival – Animal and Plant Poster Set

If you’re undertaking a unit of work on seasons in your Grade One classroom, this set of five colourful and informative posters is a great addition to your display wall.

Show students the connection between Earth sciences (seasons) and biology (plants and animals inhabiting Earth) with these level-appropriate posters. Our expert teachers have developed this poster set keeping your young learners’ in mind. They contain clear and digestible information, and large photographs.

Topics covered include:

  • Hibernation
  • Migration
  • Dormancy
  • Camouflage
  • Adaptation

Through this activity, students will learn that seasonal changes don’t only affect human life, but that they also impact on plants and animals. They will learn the ways in which animals and plants survive the changing conditions throughout a year.

Tips for Using These Seasons Posters

Although poster sets are typically designed for classroom display purposes, they can certainly be used a variety of ways. Our teacher team has come up with some alternate uses for these posters.

  • 📝 Create a fill-in-the-blank worksheet by removing selections of text.
  • 📂 Place copies in students’ homework folders for reference.
  • 💻 Provide posters as digital resources for home assignments.
  • 🧠 Test students’ memories by showing them the poster, then hiding it and having them tell you what they remember.
  • ✅ Incorporate posters into your lesson wrap-up: students write on a sticky note what they learned from the lesson and place it on the poster.
