News Article Construction Project

Link your students’ learning to current world events with this newspaper article project, and students will become reporters about King Charles III Coronation. Take your students on a journey where they learn about what will happen at the King’s coronation and then use a mindmap to plan out what they are going to include in their news article.

Constructing a newspaper article can be a great way for kids to learn about a variety of topics, such as:

  • Research – students learn about the skills of research.
  • Writing skills – writing a good newspaper article requires knowledge of particular writing skills. Students will learn how to organise their thoughts and ideas and write in clear and concise sentences.
  • News values – kids learn the value of keeping up with world events and the news.
  • Editing and revising – students learn the important process of editing and revising their own work.

Please note: Learning about the coronation of King Charles III and other events connected to the British Royal Family can be triggering to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people groups, due to the ongoing trauma faced since the point of colonisation.

King Charles III will begin his reign with growing pressure to honour treaties with First Nations People and repair some of the damage caused by the process of colonisation. These resources aim to share information on King Charles III’s life and the coronation ceremony traditions.

Give Your Students Pen and Paper – And Let Them Write

All you need to do to get this lesson started is to hit download and print copies of this booklet for each student. The task is clearly written on the front of the booklet and graphic organiser will help them to get their thoughts in order. This would also be a great homework task.
