Help students develop directional language and mapping skills through this engaging robot-coding worksheet pack.
Location and Direction Activities That Build Spatial Reasoning
Understanding location and direction helps students describe positions, follow pathways and navigate familiar spaces using mathematical language. These foundational skills support mapping, problem-solving and early computational thinking.
This robot-themed location and direction resource pack gives students multiple opportunities to follow, interpret and create movement instructions. Through maze challenges, pathway coding activities and code-building tasks, students practise using terms such as forward, left, right, clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter turn and half turn.
The pack includes three student worksheets and answer keys, making it easy to introduce, reinforce or assess understanding of movement and navigation concepts.
Position and Movement Activities for Flexible Classroom Use
This position and movement resource can be used in a variety of engaging ways:
- Human robot challenge – Have students give verbal directions for a classmate to follow around the classroom.
- Floor grid navigation – Recreate the pathways on a large grid using movement mats or masking tape.
- Maze race – Challenge students to find and explain the most efficient path through a maze.
