📏 Measure Objects Using Centimetres with an I Have, Who Has Game!

Practising how to read a ruler doesn’t need to be a boring concept! This measurement game will have your students practise reading a centimetre ruler with a fun, fast-paced game.

To play, each student will receive a card that displays an object with a centimetre ruler underneath. Students should look at the ruler to find the measurement of their object to the nearest centimetre. The student with the “START” card will begin. One at a time, each student will read their card and ask for the next measurement. The student with the correct measurement will read their card next.  This continues until the last student with the “END” card finishes.

Through this activity, students will show they can measure items using centimetres.

Ways to Adapt This Measurement Activity

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your maths lessons.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need support understanding the concepts by using the fishbowl method before playing: a small group sits in the middle, encircled by their classmates, and models the activity for the students to see. It’s also helpful to pre-teach measuring with a centimetre ruler before playing.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Encourage students who need a challenge to continue practising by measuring objects around the room.
