Topic Treasure Chest – Speaking & Presentation Template

Support young learners as they organise their ideas for oral presentations with this fun and flexible Topic Treasure Chest activity. Students write or draw their key points, their “topic treasures”, and store them inside a treasure chest template. As they present, they take out each treasure one at a time, helping them stay organised, confident and on track.

This resource is perfect for early‑years speaking tasks, show‑and‑tell, short oral presentations, and simple topic talks. The visual structure helps students remember what they want to say and encourages clear sequencing of ideas.

How the Topic Treasure Chest Builds Speaking Skills

Help students understand that good speakers plan their ideas before they talk. This resource breaks the process into simple, child‑friendly steps that support oral language development and presentation confidence.

Students practise:

  • Choosing key points for their topic
  • Drawing or writing each idea on a treasure card
  • Placing their cards inside the treasure chest
  • Taking out each “treasure” as they speak
  • Using visuals to stay organised and focused

With both small and large treasure templates, students can choose the format that suits their topic and speaking task.

Simple steps for modelling:

  • Choose a topic — pets, hobbies, favourite books, weekend activities.
  • Brainstorm key points — what do you want your audience to know?
  • Write or draw each point — one idea per treasure card.
  • Fill the treasure chest — place all cards inside.
  • Present — take out each treasure as you speak.
  • Wrap up — summarise your topic using your final treasure.
