Rounding Anchor Charts – Using Vertical Number Lines

What does it mean to round a number? This mathematical concept involves understanding place value and changing a number to one easier to work with while remaining close to the original value. When you round a number, there will be one or more zeros at the end of 

Rounded numbers help students with mental maths and estimation skills. Teach Starter has created a set of handy rounding posters that your students can use to strengthen their rounding skills!

Students can follow or reference the steps to round numbers that they need to remember by following the sequential numbers shown on the anchor chart. We’ve included an anchor chart for each of the following.

  • Rounding to the Nearest Ten
  • Rounding to the Nearest Hundred
  • Rounding to the Nearest Thousand
  • Rounding to the Nearest Ten Thousand

With this resource, your students will be reminded of the rules of rounding using a vertical number line. You can print and display them in the classroom or give students individual copies.
