Shape Transformation School Crest Project

Bring geometry to life with this engaging shape transformation project. In this project-based learning activity, students take on the role of a student designer tasked with creating a new school crest that represents a school’s values, spirit and community. As they plan and construct their design, students must incorporate examples of each transformation and use a colour-coded key to clearly identify them.

The resource includes a planning page, final crest template, reflection questions, assessment rubric and cut-out shapes, making it a comprehensive teaching tool that supports both mathematical understanding and creative expression

Students will develop their understanding of geometric transformations while building creativity, spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Translations Reflections and Rotations in the Classroom

This resource can be used in a variety of engaging ways:

  • End-of-unit project to assess student understanding of transformations.
  • Maths and art integration activity combining geometry and design.
  • Gallery walk where students identify transformations in classmates’ crests.
  • School values project by linking crest designs to school culture and identity.
  • Student presentations explaining how translations, reflections and rotations were used.
