Answer the question “What is a noun group?” with this engaging slide deck designed to help primary students use descriptive language correctly in their writing.

What Is a Noun Group?

A noun group contains a noun and the adjectives that describe it. For example:

  • The long sparkly red dress
  • Three fresh French loaves
  • A big wooden treasure chest

While this may sound simple enough, the problem lies in the order of adjectives. When more than one adjective is used in a noun group, the adjectives need to be placed in the correct order. If they’re not, a sentence can sound very strange indeed!

This comprehensive 21-slide teaching presentation has been created by our team to introduce and reinforce the concept of noun groups and the correct order of adjectives in a fun and accessible way. It explains the following types of adjectives:

  • Quantity
  • Opinion
  • Size
  • Age
  • Shape
  • Colour
  • Origin
  • Material
  • Purpose

This age-appropriate resource breaks down what seems like a complex grammar concept into bite-sized, student-friendly explanations. Whether you’re introducing noun groups for the first time or revisiting the concept, this resource provides a structured and engaging approach that supports all learners.
