Practice finding the missing number on number lines.

This worksheet is best used as independent practice as part of your maths lesson.

Using number lines that show a variety of intervals, students insert the missing numbers. They also create their own number line and explain how using a number line is similar to skip counting.

Number Line Worksheet: Extension Tips

In addition to individual student work time, use this worksheet as a:

  • Maths group activity
  • Post-lesson exit ticket
  • Homework task
  • Whole-class review (via interactive whiteboard)

Got fast finishers? Students who need a challenge, can pair up and create their own number lines for each other to complete. They could use larger numbers or have multiple missing numbers on the one number line.

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource

Because this resource includes answer sheets, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then make photocopies of the blank worksheets for students to complete.

To save paper, we suggest printing this 2-page worksheet double-sided.

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on card and slip them into write and wipe sleeves. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse.

Alternatively, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
