Lesson 5: A Life with Transport
A 60 minute lesson in which students will identify different types of modern transport and how they are used.

Lesson Plan
Tuning In
- Students watch and listen to the Transportation Sounds video on YouTube. During the video, pause after each sound is played. Before the curtain is raised, ask the students what mode of transport they think is making the sound. After watching, ask the students:
- Whatย isย transport?
- Why do we use transport?
- How does transport make moving from one place to another easier?
Teacher Instruction
- Display slide 6 from the Transport – Past, Present and Future PowerPoint. As a class, discussย the definition of transport and the different types of transport listed.
- Displayย slide 7. Conduct a class survey on the types of transport the students and their families use in a week. Record the students’ responsesย in a table and discuss the results as a class.
- After the survey, ask the students the following questions and record their answers on the board:
- What is the most popular use of transport?
- Why do our families need this mode of transport?
- Could your family live without this mode of transport? Why or why not?
Guided/Independent Learning
- In their workbooks, ask the students to illustrate and label the different types of transport their familyย regularly uses, including how and why they use it.
- Once the students have finished, ask volunteers to share their family transport and its uses with the class.
Wrapping Up
- Display slide 8. As a class, brainstorm possible modes of transport people may be using in the future.

Extending Students
- Encourage more capable students to assist others and share their ideas during group work and class discussions.
- Ask the students to imagine a life without transport and record their thoughts on the Life Without Transport - Worksheet.
Supporting Students
- Encourage less confident students to participate in group work and class discussions at a level at which they feel comfortable.
