They’ve been out of the classroom for weeks, and following directions is always a skill that needs to be revisited at the beginning of the year. That’s where a good, old-fashioned listen and draw activity can be handy!

A Draw and Listen Activity Your Students Will Love!

Use this draw-and-listen activity at the start of a new year to refine and review listening skills. We recommend exercises like these to help ease your students into the concept of whole-body listening.

This free resource includes four different scenes for students to use and instruction scripts for the teacher. After distributing the scene to students, the teacher reads the appropriate script, pausing after each instruction to allow time for students to complete it. Students add to the scene in various ways – by colouring, writing words or drawing an item.

As this activity is designed to improve listening skills, the goal is for students to hear each instruction only once.
