Addition and Subtraction Rules for Odd and Even Numbers – Matching Game
A matching game to play when learning addition and subtraction rules for odd and even numbers.
This teaching resource has been designed to help students learn the rules for adding and subtracting odd and even numbers through an engaging, hands-on activity.
Each small group is provided with a set of cards. Students must work together to calculate the answer to each question card. They must then decide whether the answer is an odd number or an even number.
Once all of the question cards have been answered, the students must work together to formulate rules for adding and subtracting odd and even numbers. The rules include:
- even + even = even
- even + odd = odd
- odd + odd = even
- even – even = even
- even – odd = odd
- odd – odd = even.
More detailed instructions for teachers are included in the resource.
