Explore the Function of a Dependent Clause in a Sentence

Dependent clauses play an important role in linking ideas in complex sentences. Using them makes writing more connected and sophisticated, and what teacher doesn’t want their students to produce coherent and well-developed sentences?

This fun digital quiz has been designed by our team to help your students identify and interpret dependent clauses in complex sentences. On each slide, students are presented with a sentence and a question about the function of the dependent clause. Three answer options are provided. If they make the right choice, they will be able to proceed to the next question. If they make an incorrect choice, they will be offered the opportunity to go back and try again.

This resource downloads as a Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation and features 24 separate sentences for students to analyze. Simply project it onto your screen, and you have a ready-made activity for exploring dependent clauses and their functions!
