Authors often use emotive language in their fictional writing to engage the reader. It makes the reader feel certain emotions, such as sadness, excitement, or happiness as they read through the text. It is a technique that is often used in novels, poetry, short stories, and plays. It is also commonly used in persuasive text to influence the reader to adopt the author’s opinion.

Use this resource when explicitly teaching your students about the craft of using emotive language.
