Create and design your own Island Resort with a fun end of year art and STEM project for elementary students.
End of Year Projects for the Win! Design Your Own Island Resort S.T.E.A.M. Activity
This Island Resort Design Project is a fun way for your students to find out about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).
In this project, students will design their own island resort and advertise it to visitors. Students will use their creativity, analytical skills and imagination to complete different tasks in order to develop their resort. The project is divided into five sections:
- creating ideas and brainstorming
- designing the main attractions of an island
- designing a map and layout of your island
- advertising the resort through a brochure
- reflecting on the process and outcome of the project.
This STEM-based project is designed to be fun and engaging so that students will become more interested in creating and designing. The final goal is a creative and thoughtful display which can be shared with other students, families, and visitors.

In addition to individual student work time, use this STEM project to enhance learning through partner projects, whole class discussions, or remote learning opportunities.
If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:
🆘 Support Struggling Students
Assist students with learning challenges by participating in brainstorming and listing conversations with them. Discuss the different features and how those features might contribute to their overall design idea.
➕ Challenge Fast Finishers
Encourage fast finishers to create a large-scale depiction of their island, write a newspaper ad, or create a slide show advertising their location.
