Strengthen understanding of inverse operations by finding the missing value of each division equation.

🔎 Can You Find the Missing Number?

How can you find a missing number in a division equation? In math class, students are sometimes challenged with finding the missing divisor or dividend in a division problem. They must have a good understanding of inverse operations to be able to solve for the missing number. In some cases, students may divide the numbers presented in the problem, whereas at other times, they may have to divide them. Teach Starter has a worksheet ready for you to use with your students to strengthen their understanding of this concept.

With this worksheet, students will show they understand inverse operations with division as well as how to find a missing value of a division equation. Students will solve 16 questions where they must find the missing divisor or dividend to make a statement true. The second half of the worksheet may have many answers, as students will determine which number is needed to make an equation greater than or less than a given number.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

For students who need a bit of a challenge, have them explain what an inverse operation is and how they used it to solve some of the worksheet problems.

If there are students who need additional support, have them create fact families for each example and solve the problem that shows the equation in its traditional form.
