A fun and simple adding and subtracting activity.

Use this fun, hands-on activity when teaching students to add and subtract.

How to use this resource for addition:

  • Print out all of the pieces on cardstock for added durability.
  • Students roll a pair of dice. They place the matching number of counters for one of the dice on the left side of the ladybug and the matching number of counters for the other die on the right side.
  • Using the number and symbol cards, students make the number sentence they created on their ladybug.
  • Students find the sum by counting the counters on the ladybug’s back.

How to use this resource for subtraction:

  • Print out all of the pieces on cardstock for added durability.
  • Students roll a ten-sided die and place the matching number of counters on the ladybug.
  • Students choose a number card from the stack.
  • Students find the difference by counting the counters on the ladybug’s back.
  • Using the number and symbol cards, students make the number sentence they reenacted.

For a great extension activity, why not have your students generate a problem situation to match their number sentence.

This resource is great to use as a math center activity to practice addition and subtraction using concrete models.
