Invertebrates:

  • do not have a backbone,
  • have more than one cell,
  • are usually small, slow-moving animals,
  • do not have well developed brains,
  • have a simple nervous system.

Vertebrates:

  • have an internal skeleton and bones,
  • have more than one cell,
  • are usually bigger and faster than invertebrates,
  • have a developed brain, enclosed in a skull,
  • have a complex nervous system.
