Integrate Strong Adjectives Into Student Writing

This set of printable adjective posters is an easy way to improve your students’ vocabularies and writing skills. Young writers often resort to using basic and boring adjectives to describe things in their writing. These posters solve that problem by providing your students with stronger and more descriptive adjectives to use in their daily writing assignments.

Each adjective poster contains a minimum of twenty words covering:

  • taste
  • touch
  • sound
  • colour
  • size
  • time
  • shape
  • amount
  • feelings (good and bad)
  • personality
  • appearance
  • smell.

How to Make the Most of Your Adjective Posters

  1. Print the posters on A4 paper, slip them into clear sleeves and use them in your guided groups as a reminder.
  2. Print the poster on A4 paper, slide them into clear sleeves, and hang them on a ring as a reference tool for a learning centre.
  3. Print the posters and hang them in the classroom as a permanent reference display for students.
  4. Print the posters at a smaller scale (4-6 per sheet) and have students place them into their writing notebooks or binders.

This is a great adjective word mat for primary students. Could you make one that is suitable for Years 1 and 2?
