Play this engaging probability game with your students to build their understanding of probability and exercise critical thinking.
Everyone Wins With This Bingo Probability Game
The probability is high that your students will love this engaging and interactive Bingo Probability Game! Perfect for maths stations, whole-class instruction or guided groups, this game combines the excitement of Bingo with hands-on learning about probability.
Students take ownership of their learning by strategically filling in their own Bingo cards using combinations of colour outcomes from custom dice covered in one of three coloured dots. As the teacher rolls the dice and announces the colour pair, students mark their boards—building understanding of likelihood, randomness and strategic thinking. This resource includes everything you need to get started — a blank Bingo board, printable dice templates and clear instructions. It’s a fun, low-prep way to make probability meaningful and memorable!
Preparing and Using This Rolling Dice Probability Activity in the Classroom
In a few easy steps, this rolling dice probability activity is ready to go! Here’s how to get ‘rolling.’
Prepare
- Download this probability game in the format of your choice.
- Print two die templates (we recommend printing on cardboard for longevity) and assemble the dice.
- Provide each student with a copy of the blank BINGO board.
Play
- Explain to students that you will roll the dice and call out the two colours shown, and that they will cover one space on their boards containing that colour combination if it is present.
- Based on what they have just learnt about the dice and probability, students fill in all the spaces on their Bingo boards, using ‘BG’ for blue/green, ‘BB’ for blue/blue, ‘BR’ for blue/red, ‘GG’ for green/green, ‘GR’ for green/red and ‘RR’ for red/red. Students can decide how many of each combination they would like to place on their boards.
- Roll the two dice and call out the colour combination.
- Students mark a match if they have one. Only one space can be marked per roll.
- Continue rolling the dice and calling colour combinations until a student marks every space and calls ‘BINGO!’ to win.
- Have a short class discussion about the results. Ask students – if they were to play this game again, would they use the same board? Why or why not?
- Play the game several more times, each time giving students a chance to refine their strategy by creating a new board if they like. Hold a discussion after each game about how to create the most strategic Bingo board.
