Time to Master Commas After Introductory Phrases!

Commas have lots of different uses… That’s what can make learning about them tricky for our students. Thankfully, Teach Starter has designed this engaging, interactive resource to make learning about commas after introductory phrases interesting and enjoyable.

This commas activity is an entirely digital resource featuring 12 different interactive slides that make punctuation practice engaging and accessible for young learners. Whether you’re introducing the concept for the first time or providing extra support during writing lessons, this resource offers a simple, structured way to reinforce this essential punctuation rule.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the exercises you’ll find within this digital commas activity:

  1. Use the paint can tool to colour ‘Correct’ or ‘Incorrect’ for each sentence.
  2. Sort the sentences by whether they have used an introductory comma correctly.
  3. Move a check mark to cover the sentences that have used a comma correctly.
  4. Rewrite the incorrect sentences correctly by typing in the box provided.
  5. Drag a comma icon into the correct place in the sentences provided.
  6. Use an introductory phrase from the word bank to type a sentence in the box.

This digital resource for teaching introductory commas downloads as a Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides file. Answers can be downloaded as a separate PDF file.
