Let’s Compare 3-Digit Numbers

Comparing numbers can often be tricky for some of our students – especially when choosing the correct comparative symbol. This resource allows your students to practise the skill in an accessible way.

To play, students will click on the comparative symbol that best completes the number sentence shown on the slide. They will be taken to a screen showing if they are correct or need to go back and try again. All the slides have been properly linked to make this a self-checking activity for your students.

Through this activity, students will show an understanding of how to compare 3-digit numbers using comparative symbols.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your place value lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through whole-class lessons or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Let struggling students use a place value chart and MAB blocks to build both numbers and compare. If more support is needed, have them cover both place value charts with a piece of paper, reveal each value, starting with the hundreds place, and compare the numbers.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students needing an extension, have them create a game for their classmates to play that compares numbers to the hundreds place.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students
