Practice comparing 3-digit numbers with this self-checking Google interactive activity.

Let’s Compare

Comparing numbers can often be a tricky skill for some of our students – especially when having to choose the correct comparative symbol. This resource allows your students to practice the skill in a non-threatening way.

To play, students will click on the comparative symbol that best completes the number sentence shown on the slide. They will be taken to a screen showing if they are correct or need to go back and try again. All the slides have been properly linked to make this a self-checking activity for your students.

Through this activity, students will show an understanding of how to compare 3-digit numbers using comparative symbols.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your place value lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through whole-class lessons or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Let struggling students use a place value chart and base-10 blocks to build both numbers and compare. If more support is needed, have them cover both place value charts with a piece of paper and reveal each value, starting with the hundreds place, and compare the numbers.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need an extension, have them create a game for their classmates to play that focuses on comparing numbers to the hundreds place.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.
