With minimal materials and easy-to-follow instructions, you can guide students through an activity that encourages the random selection of conjunctions to create compound or complex sentences.

Setting Up Your Class’ Conjunctions Spinners

Materials Needed:

  • 1 brad
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut out both pieces provided in the template.
  2. Place the arrow piece so that the black dot aligns precisely over the black dot on the spinner piece.
  3. Insert the brad through the black dot, piercing through both pieces.
  4. Students spin the spinner to randomly select a conjunction to include in their writing.

How to Use the Conjunctions Spinner

This hands-on tool allows various ways to reinforce conjunction understanding and sentence formation:

  • Verbal Sentence Creation: Encourage students to spin the arrow and verbally create compound or complex sentences using the conjunction it lands on. This activity promotes speaking and thinking skills.
  • Written Sentence Development: Students can spin the arrow and either write or type a compound or complex sentence using the selected conjunction. This written exercise fosters creative expression and writing competency.
