Engage students in practising their knowledge of the consonant digraph ‘ph’ with this fun ocean-themed interactive activity.

Let’s Explore the Ocean and Practise Identifying the Ph Consonant Digraph

Teaching the “ph” digraph involves helping students recognise and understand that these two letters together represent a specific sound. The “ph” digraph is commonly found at the beginning of words, and it usually represents the /f/ sound.

This fun ocean-themed interactive activity has been created by an experienced teacher with little learners at the forefront of the design. The activities students will complete include pictures, deciding if the object contains the ‘ph’ sound, and using a tick or a cross to show their understanding.

  1. Sorting words into a ‘ph’ list and a ‘not ph’ list.
  2. Type in the correct word in for a set of four pictures, including – phone, autograph, megaphone, and pheasant.
  3. Read a simple sentence that contains a word with the ‘ph’ digraph and match an image to each sentence.
  4. Sorting real and nonsense words that include the ‘ph’ digraph.
  5. Look at pictures and decide which word matches the image. x 4.
  6. Finding ‘ph’ digraph in a small paragraph of writing.
  7. Plus more!
