Learn to identify the continents and oceans of the world with an engaging partner game.

Learn the Continents with an Active Game!

Are you looking for a fun way to teach your students about continents and oceans? This simple game will allow your students to identify the seven continents and five oceans on a map.

To play, assemble the continent and ocean dodecahedron die. Provide students with paper copies of the world map and crayons. Students will take turns rolling the die, locating the ocean or continent rolled, and colouring it on their map. Game play continues until a student has coloured all seven continents and five oceans on their map.

Through this activity, students will show they can identify continents by their shape and locate the continents and oceans on a world map.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Geography lessons.

In addition to partner work time, use this map skills game to enhance learning through a small group lesson or as a fast finisher activity.

If you have a mixture of above- and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need support understanding the concepts by providing an anchor chart or reference sheet about the five oceans and seven continents.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to research the different continents and make posters or fact sheets to share with the class.
