How to Use this Conjunctions Resource
To download your copy of this teaching template, click the download button and choose between the Google Slides or PDF version. Save the file to your local storage for use year after year! Print both pages separately (not back-to-back), ensuring you have enough for each student to have their own. Assign the task and review the simple student instructions included on the first page:
- Assemble Dice 1 (Coordinating Conjunctions): Students are guided to colour, cut, and assemble the first dice, which contains coordinating conjunctions, such as “and,” “but,” “or,” “for,” “so,” “yet,” allowing them to familiarise themselves with these conjunctions. You may wish to display this FANBOYS poster to jog their memories on the most commonly used coordinating conjunctions.
- Assemble Dice 2 (Topics): Students are encouraged to write and colour 8 topics on the second dice, which they can talk about. They then cut and assemble the second dice, reflecting their personal interests or preferences for discussion topics.
- Game Play: In pairs, students take turns rolling both dice. The resulting combination of a coordinating conjunction and a topic is used to create a sentence. For instance, if the dice show “and” and “favourite hobbies,” a sentence might be, “Cycling is fun, and it’s one of my favourite hobbies.”
This interactive game encourages students to apply their knowledge of coordinating conjunctions by creating cohesive and structured sentences based on the given topics.
Our Coordinating Conjunctions Dice Game provides a fun and hands-on way to reinforce the understanding and application of coordinating conjunctions, fostering both grammar proficiency and creative language use.
