## What Is an Array? Maths Definition for Kids

If your students are just starting to embark on their understanding of multiplication, chances are they will learn the term ‘array’ at some point. This may be another new vocabulary term for them, so let’s break it down and look at a simple way to explain this maths concept to your students!

In maths, an array is a group of objects that are arranged in rows and columns, just like when you see cookies on a baking sheet. It helps us see and understand groups of numbers better. For example, if you have 3 rows of 4 cookies, you can make an array to show that there are 12 cookies in total.

## Array Worksheets – Year 2 and 3 Practise

Teach Starter has created a cut-and-paste worksheet to help your students review their understanding of multiplication arrays. This teacher-created resource includes two different versions, suitable for students in years 2 and 3. The one-star version (as noted with the star in the upper right-hand corner of the page, uses factors through 5. The two-star version challenges students to use factors through 10.

Regardless of the version you choose, students will cut apart the 12 array pieces. Then, students will find the corresponding maths fact on their worksheet and glue the matching array in the box.

Are you ready to use this fun cut-and-paste activity in your classroom? Head on over to the green download button! Here, you will find the quick-print PDF file and the editable Google Slides document. If choosing the Google Slides option, please note that you will first be prompted to make a copy of the resource to your personal drive before accessing it.
