Introduce your students to different multiplication strategies such as arrays, equal groups, repeated addition and skip counting with this 34-page slide deck.
What Are Some Ways to Teach Multiplication?
If you are just starting to teach your students about the concept of multiplication, you’ve probably thought about the many different ways to represent this concept. Teaching multiplication to students can be made more engaging and effective through various strategies and methods. Let’s check out some ways to teach multiplication!
Manipulatives – Use physical objects like counters, blocks or beads to demonstrate multiplication. For instance, show that 3 groups of 4 counters each result in 12 counters in total.
Skip Counting – Encourage students to practise skip counting by multiples. For instance, counting by twos, threes, fours, etc. This helps reinforce the connection between addition and multiplication.
Visual Aids – Use visual aids like arrays, area models and multiplication charts to illustrate the concept of multiplication. Visual representations make it easier for students to grasp the idea of repeated addition.

If you are looking for a starting point for your multiplication lesson plans, look no further! Teach Starter has put together a comprehensive 34-slide teaching presentation that will guide your students through the different types of multiplication representations. Inside this slide deck, you will find different sections that cover:
- Using arrays
- Repeated addition
- Skip counting (with fingers, listing multiples and number lines)
- Using equal groups
Each section is set up in a manner that allows the teacher to introduce the strategy, practise an example with the students and give them a chance to demonstrate their understanding independently.
This slide deck also teaches essential vocabulary terms, including factor and product.
